Situated in a beautiful part of Lincolnshire, in countryside between the Wolds and the coast, LWR is only a short distance from Grimsby, the seaside resort of Cleethorpes and the historic market town of Louth.
We are the only standard-gauge heritage steam railway in Lincolnshire. It is very important to us to keep our heritage line running and keeping steam alive, and we are living history with a purpose to recreate and preserve railway scenes of the past. Our history
This stretch of track, once part of the Great Northern Route, opened on 1st March 1848 to passenger traffic. It became known as the East Lincolnshire line and was operated by the Great Northern Railway Company.
After the last section of line was closed by British Rail in 1980, a preservation society was formed with the aim of restoring it. Heritage steam trains once again run between Ludborough and North Thoresby, and work is now in progress to extend the line southwards towards Louth.
