What we collect and why
When you send us an enquiry, we collect your name, email address, phone number and your message, so that we can reply and help you.
When you book an event such as a dining train, Santa Special, experience or special event, we collect your name, contact details, the number and type of passengers, and any dietary or accessibility requirements you tell us. For Santa Specials we also collect each child’s first name and age, so that Father Christmas has the right gift. We use this information only to manage your booking and your visit.
Online payments are handled by PayPal. We do not see or store your card details. Where you pay by bank transfer, we simply record that the payment has been made.
With your consent, we use cookies to collect anonymous information about how visitors use the website, so that we can improve it. Our Cookie Policy explains this, and you can change your choice at any time.
Our legal basis
We rely on our legitimate interests to respond to your enquiries and run the railway, on the performance of a contract to take and fulfil your booking, and on your consent for analytics cookies and any optional marketing.
Who we share it with
We are run by volunteers and we do not sell your information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run the website and take bookings:
- PayPal for payment processing
- Resend to send booking confirmations and emails
- Cloudflare to host the website
- Google Analytics for anonymous website statistics, only if you accept analytics cookies
We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry messages for as long as we need them to deal with your query. We keep booking and payment records for as long as we are required to for accounting and tax purposes, and then delete them.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to give you a copy of the information we hold about you, correct anything that is wrong, delete your information, or restrict or object to how we use it. To make a request, please contact us. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
