Steam on down to Louth Library at 2.00pm on Thursday 25th January 2018 to hear an illustrated talk by local author and historian Alf Ludlam about the Lincolnshire Railway Centre of Louth.
Situated on the East Lincolnshire main line from Grimsby to Boston, with branch lines to Bardney and Mablethorpe, Louth was an important railway centre in Lincolnshire.
For many years Louth was the centre of railway operations in the east of the county. It had motive power, engineering and signalling departments all based in the town and the railway was the largest employer in the district.
Among other things we will look at are the role of navvies, station horses, the bombing of the station and the 12 inch rail-mounted Howitzers assigned to the East Lincolnshire line during World War 2.
