Visitors will have the chance to see behind the scenes when the trains aren’t running and discover all about the area’s railway history during the Lincolnshire Heritage Open Days event in September.
The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway will be opening the doors at Ludborough station on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September between 11am and 3pm, when there will be guided tours of the maintenance facilities, together with static displays of locomotives and rolling stock. The museum, shop and buffet will also be open.
Those over 18s who always wanted to be an engine driver can even try their hand at the controls of one of the railway’s diesel locomotives for only £5.
On Sunday at 1.30pm, Grimsby railway author and historian, Alf Ludlam, will be giving an illustrated talk on the railways of East Lincolnshire.
On the Saturday evening at Fulstow Village Hall there will be a special showing of ‘Britain on Film – Railways‘, a major new collection of rare archive film charting the history of the UK’s railways. Starting at 6.30pm, entry is £5 which includes a light buffet.
