Rare artifact donated to railway museum

The museum at Ludborough station has acquired a very rare Great Eastern Railway police truncheon which belonged to James Brown Rostron of New Waltham. Born in 1878 in County Durham, James Brown Rostron served as a railway policeman in London, Essex and Suffolk, prior to being transferred to the Grimsby area where he was stationed at Immingham and Cleethorpes. This police truncheon, of which only one other example is known, was kindly donated to our museum by Mr Rostron’s grandaughter, Mary Rostron (pictured here).
Along with the truncheon, Mary has passed on several photographs of Mr Rostron, including this one with a group of railway employees at Millwall Docks in London. The artifacts are now on display in the museum, which is open on running days.
